Chiropractic is a totally different approach to health based on the body's inherent ability to heal itself. Chiropractic addresses the relationship between the structure of the spine and the function of the nervous system, as that relationship affects the restoration and preservation of health. Most people think Chiropractors only care for the back and muscle related problems. While this is the reason to see a Chiropractor, it's not the main objective of Chiropractic.
The main objective of Chiropractic is to maintain health in the body. Health may be defined as a condition that exists when every part of the body (organs, glands, muscles, etc.) are functioning 100%. Chiropractors deal with what is called a vertebral subluxation. Subluxations are misalignments of the bones of the spine, which can pinch or irritate a spinal nerve thus interfering with its function and consequently, the tissue of the body, which it controls.
This interference and subsequently improper function set the stage for symptoms, pain and disease. Symptoms and pain do not occur without a reason. Symptoms are your bodies warning system much like a fire alarm in your house warns you of a fire, symptoms and pain in your body warn you of dangerous or serious problems in your body. If your house were on fire it would be foolish to disconnect the fire alarm and let the house burn down. Yet, every day people take medication to cover up their symptoms and pain without ever really questioning what CAUSED the symptoms and pain. Chiropractors locate and correct the vertebral subluxation, thus allowing your body to function properly and heal itself naturally.
